Christian Saez

Where I come from:

Born in California and raised in the pacific northwest, I’ve called the west coast my home for as long as I can remember. In that short time I’ve had the pleasure of working in great industries with amazingly talented people who have helped me grow both personally and professionally. Although only 23 years old, I’ve always strove to be a leader in my field. From being the first ever recipient of the Future Broadcaster Award from the Colorado Broadcasters Association, to being the youngest journalist working at my news station. I think it might have been the fact that my birthday falls in late May (shoutout fellow Taurus), making me usually on the younger side compared to my peers, but I have always worked to grow my skills and experiences ahead of my age.

My time on-air:

My undergraduate education took place in Colorado, where I graduated from Western Colorado University with a degree in Communications and a double minor in Business Administration and Spanish. After graduating I moved to Spokane Washington and started my master’s degree in Communication & Leadership from Gonzaga University. While working towards my master’s degree, I spent time as the stadium announcer and field host for the Spokane Indians minor league baseball team, play-by-play broadcaster for 700 ESPN and SWX TV, and as a multimedia journalist and reporter for the NBC affiliate KHQ TV. I’ve had the privilege of covering many different topics during my time as a broadcaster, including the No. 1 Gonzaga’s men’s basketball team during their historic run in the 2021 NCAA tournament. I also spent six years calling games in the NCAA, starting as the radio voice of the Western Colorado Mountaineers transitioning to broadcasting for 700 ESPN radio and SWX TV calling games in the Big Sky conference. I also hosted and produced Gunnison Sports Talk Radio for three years.

Business background:

While my time spent in front of a camera has always been exhilarating, I was not-so-unfortunately blessed with an abundance of passions. One of the most consistent ones being a passion for business and marketing. Although my measly minor in business might not provide the best representation of my business knowledge, since high school I have had an eye for all things branding, audience engagement, and messaging. In reality, isn’t that what I do to some extent every time I broadcast a game? At least that’s the goal. In my work in communications I’ve focused on how brands communicate with their audiences to optimize engagements and recognition. I touch on this sometimes in my essay series Wander as well as my economy reporting for KHQ TV.
